The Hydrolyzed Polyacrylonitrile Ammonium Salt (HPAN) is a versatile drilling fluid additive that serves as both a fluid loss reducer and viscosity modifier. This partially hydrolyzed polymer creates effective filtration control by forming a compressible, low-permeability filter cake. Its anionic character provides excellent compatibility with freshwater, seawater, and saturated saltwater systems. The ammonium salt formulation offers enhanced thermal stability (up to 300°F/149°C) and improved shale inhibition properties compared to sodium-based equivalents.
